Amid Covid-19, NYC Teachers Union Says City Must Do More for Safe Reopening

The head of New York City’s teacher’s union is stepping up pressure on Mayor Bill de Blasio, saying City Hall’s plan for reopening schools in September falls short of safeguards needed to protect students and school staff amid the coronavirus pandemic.

United Federation of Teachers president Michael Mulgrew on Wednesday asked union members to sign a petition listing safety measures he says the schools must have in place before reopening this fall in-person learning.
